I take it Vesta were (are?) British, as they clearly saw it their patriotic duty to make British cuisine look by far the best in the World.

Devastatingly, Warburtons stopped production of toastie pockets a few months back. Bastards.

Top Toppers. They tasted OK but when you opened that tiny tin the stench made you gag. I always felt that this was something of a clue.

Nurse, yep I remember that orange aid stuff, I think the other flavour might have been blackcurrant?
I can't remember the specifics but at one point they were all 'the thing' for a few weeks amongst mates from school. Heaven only knows how they reached that status, as try as you might to pretend the taste was nice, it was disgusting and I'm actually 'feeling' the taste of them again just writing these words.
Had a vesta curry a couple years back for old times sake...my God to think at one point that was actually considered a little bit exotic.

Heinz stopped producing them in 2014.
Not sure if they would taste nice to adult me or were just one of those products that were enjoyable when you were a kid.

Gawd, Vesta meals...
I remember my mum attempting to make their Chinese style plawn clackers as part of their sweet and sour chicken kit, and they puffed up but were rock hard. Inedible.
Does anyone remember those tins of crystals/powder that you'd add a teaspoon or so to a glass of water to get instant orangeaid? Think they did another flavour, too. Imagine ANDREWS LIVER SALTS (*nods in direction of massive git*) but vaguely orangey.

Oh ok, you grilled that shit. I get it. Grilled cheese is generally pretty good whatever other filth they throw in it.

I loved my 1970s childhood. EVERYTHING was out to kill you, be it pervert neighbours, metal roller skates or popular convenience foods.

They didn't taste awful.
But, even at the young age when I used to eat them, I suspected that they ought to taste awful, and various underhand methods were used to make them taste addictively good.

Re: Toast Toppers

It was a plasticky paste that you would speed on toast, then put under the grill to cook/heat it. The cheese content (and, likely, a fuck-ton of sugar) would ensure it had all the texture and temperature of volcanic lava, but nowhere near as safe.
